Don’t panic, it’s organic

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

organicA NEWS article written by Sun.Star staff reporter Rebelander S. Basilan last Sunday sent me running to the Department of Education (DepEd) 7’s Ecotech Center in Sudlon, Lahug yesterday morning. It was raining, which would have been enough reason for me to stay in bed and to hell with Basilan’s story.

And there was this message in my phone that said: “Warning: At 4:30 a.m., the nuclear power plant in Fukumi, Japan exploded. When rain falls anytime today, just stay inside the house, and if you are outside, see to it that you have a raincoat or an umbrella because the rain may be acidic and may cause skin cancer. Please pass this to your friends and loved ones even if you know this chain advisory is crap, just like those Marian prayers that promised you a life of misfortune and profound sadness if ignored.” OK, I made the last part up, but what the heck.

Please do something. Help.

Tsinelas is soliciting contributions to help poor kids enroll this year. You will be surprised how many of our children in the mountains and other depressed areas opt not to enroll every year simply because their parents don’t have money for school supplies and uniforms.

This has kept me busy the past weeks. Tsinelas is finalizing a proposal for the construction of a Community Resource Center in one of Cebu City’s remotest barangays – where children go to school on empty stomachs, where classes stop when there’s fog because it grows dark and there’s no electricity and it’s impossible to read, where no elected city hall official has ever set foot, fuck you!

tsinelas has lots of plans for the area… and i don’t mind living there the rest of my life because there’s plenty of preskong utanon and bisayang manok, fuck me!
