It was 7 p.m. and not one in the group had had dinner yet. They had just come from work. One of them had brought snacks for everyone and that would do for now. After the usual pleasantries, they got down to business. Tonight’s topic: designing a system to coordinate the group’s growing number of volunteers in six colleges and universities, four municipalities and a dozen support units in Cebu.
HIGH SCHOOL students from a mountain barangay in Pinamungajan, Cebu who are receiving education assistance from a group were given a personality development seminar recently.
The experience was unique for the 23 high school students from Lut-od National High School because it was the first time they were given a chance to learn about themselves in a non-academic setting.
“Me Na Me: A Personality Development Seminar” was held at the Hidden Valley Training Center and Resort in Barangay Lamac.

What are we looking for? Today, we are looking for very simple values. We must return to the original values of the Filipino race. Remember the story of the king who said, “Lalakad ako. Ayaw kong masaktan ang paa ko. Carpet the whole kingdom!” What a waste of money because what the next king did was gumawa ng tsinelas, cut out in the carpet the form of his foot. Why cover the whole kingdom with carpet when you can protect your feet and spend only so much? Protect your feet; do not cover the kingdom with carpet. We don’t have to cover the whole world. Begin with ourselves.

PAMUHUAN Festival in Pinamungajan is one celebration that will be a subject of future debates, at least among the town’s residents and history buffs, as to whether it authentically represents the town’s origins.
If tradition is to be followed, ‘bunga’ is the root word of Pinamungajan, not “pamuo,” as the festival suggests. It’s “bunga” to the town’s old folks and thugs, fish vendors, the naughty barber across the church plaza, even the parish priest who has spent more than half of his life hearing the confessions of the town’s sinners.
