‘Prickasso’

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Regular visitors should know by now that we don’t take things seriously here… well, at least not all the time. If you expect to read some “serious” stuff here, you have the right to be disappointed. (Click ‘insoymada’ in the pages section to know that I’ve been warning you all the time).

I’m adding a new category here dedicated to the funny, the absurd and the plainly outrageous. These are stories that pop up whenever I click-search ‘sicko.’ If these stories remind you of your own eccentricities, I’ll leave you to take it from there, fix yourself and contribute to saving the St. Vincent Pygmy Rice Rat from extinction.

Let’s start with this one: http://prickasso

Good news is bad news?

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

We’ve been hearing complaints about media highlighting only the bad news. “Noted,” the mediaman says, resumes work and features the rape of a 75-year-old grandma in the front page of the next day’s issue. But there was actually a newspaper that featured good news only. I found this article while surfing the net. Let’s see what happened to that paper.

Bad year for rats in China

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Here’s another proof of man’s treacherous nature. The non-human, non-profit organization Rats for the Prevention of Cruelty to Rodents denounces the latest atrocities committed against their brothers and sisters in China. “What happened to man’s warm gesture of calling 2008 Year of the Rat?” they asked.

The batuta revival

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Before the Jose de Venecia ouster and the Rodolfo ‘Jun’ Lozada Jr. expose, there was a more compelling issue that sadly slipped the public’s mind. I’m referring to a PNP memorandum entitled: “The Revival of Baton in the Maintenance of Peace and Order in the Philippines,” with its enlightening sub-head, “Maintaining the Country’s Peace and Order through the Revival of the Baton.”

Weekend in Bantayan

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

The headline last Saturday read: “2 boats capsize.”

The weather was foul. But everything was set. This was a weekend getaway long overdue. Ech and I pushed through with the trip to Bantayan Island to see if we could survive a day or two off-line.

Big waves! I prayed for the boat to make it to the island in one piece. She prayed for the sun to shine anytime soon so she could take pictures. Aargh!

My prayer was answered. Hers wasn’t. But despite the lack of sun, she managed to get some pretty decent shots. Check it out at http://ang babayeng di mahadlok og bawod

And we thought we’re worse off

Planted, giplantiran, pantaplat

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

( You need to be familiar with the nuances of the Cebuano language to appreciate what I’m talking about here. In any case, I have a friend, a priest, who once insisted that the Cebuano term for “to urinate” should be “manghingutin.”  To use it in a sentence: Excuse kadiyot bay ha, manghingutin sa ko.)

LAST WEEK, a strange word made it to the front pages of local newspapers and would have stayed there for weeks if not for the arrival of other equally exciting words like Sulpa and Japanese pornography. “Sulpa” sounds a lot sexier, and “pornography” is more sinfully attractive.

My new toy

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Here’s cutting on beer for the coming weeks – Asus EEE PC (well, not exactly the one in the photo. Mine is black). But what the heck. Lonely boy needs a new toy. Happy Friggintine’s Day to me.

The World’s Cheesiest Love Songs

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Here I go again, flaunting my adulation for cheesy love songs… (do I hear toilet flushing in the background?)… Can you imagine a world without cheesy love songs? No, you can’t. Because cheesy love songs are the soundtrack of our lives. Where were you when this cheesy song was number one… one… one… one? In the toilet, of course, crying over a crush named “Pimple With a Face.”

Cheesy love songs define who we are, determine what we eat, what underwear we wear on pay day, what day we pick our nose, what time of the day we fart. Oh yes, cheesy love songs are the total eclipse of our collective heart, the wind beneath our collective wings… our forest primeval… our… OK. I’m done.

Check the list out at http://sound of toilet flushing
